Under one week until the big move…..I can hardly contain myself!
I will provide updates once we’ve made the move and we’ve started to settle in…but until then I’ve created this post to show you our inspiration for our monochromatic living & dining room.
This area is right off our kitchen and a spot that we will be spending most of our waking hours! I’ve loved the dark ship-lap look for so long (who hasn’t) and knew that I wanted to switch out the standard fireplace tile with this dramatic look. I know it’s not for everyone, but I think it adds some modern youthfulness to the space. I’m sure you can tell from my past posts, but we aren’t huge colour people when it comes to decor. We move the monochromatic look but adding bold features like brass pendants and dark accents. I do however love bringing in natural elements into the space in the way of greenery!
Greenery
Who doesn’t love a good fiddle leaf plant. I personally do not have a green thumb, and I hear that these tree’s are pretty hard to maintain so I love this Faux Pottery Barn tree. It will always look pristine and is probably the same price as a real one (they’re expensive buggers). Now like I said earlier, I do not have a green thumb, so I love a succulent! I put these into a (similar) terrarium on our coffee table and they always make a statement.
Dining Room
I love our dining room set so much, about 5 years ago I purchased our table from a Dr. in Barrie off craigslist. I was on the hunt for a solid wood round dining table for a our lake house and unfortunately I didn’t have the budget for a new one. When I spotted our table I instantly called my dad and asked if we would be willing to drive with me down to Barrie and pick it up. (I have the best dad so of course he said yes) (Table shown is not our’s but similar)
Currently we have high back banana leaf chairs that while they look great with our table, they seem a little to coastal/beachy for our new house. We’re going to wait until were in the space, but I think I am leaning towards these these beautiful black farmhouse style chairs and I think they would go perfectly with the space.
Accessories
I love adding colour(ish) to a space with pillows and throw’s. I am Scottish so I love when I spot some beautiful red tartan, and who doesn’t love the black and white buffalo check that seems to be showing up everywhere! I love to add little pieces that show our interest like this beautiful DOGS coffee table book. I purchased this years ago and I still have it on display in our living room. It’s a great book to layer with candles, succulent pots etc. One thing to keep in mind when decorating is to add texture. Since all of our walls are white, and we won’t have a ton of colour in the space, you definitely want to add several textures to a room to keep it from being boring and dull.
I love this white shag rug from Costco, we will be purchasing this again with our new house. They’re a great size, pretty affordable so if your dog or baby makes a mess of it you’re not going to feel bad if you need to replace.
Again I LOVE a good faux fur throw and this one will be making it’s way around the house. I love that each of our rooms are just a continuation of each-other so we can switch and swap accessories to change it up every few months.
Furniture
Last year we purchased a beautiful round wooden coffee table with a black iron geometric base. I love when Homesense comes through with big purchases like that for a great price. Thankfully we have another wing back chair that we need to use in this new house and I’m thinking it will look perfect beside our fireplace. You can never have enough seating as we love to have friends and family over! When it comes to couches we have a couple option to choose from for sectionals. We already have a similar grey leather and black leather sectional as shown in the picture below. I know a lot of people thing black leather furniture is very bachelor-ish, but honestly when you have a dog and a toddler you want leather. There are so many time’s I’ve been so grateful to just wipe down the couch after a poop explosion or milk spill. There could be a chance that the neither of the two sectionals will work and if that’s the case I’ve had my eye on some beautiful brown leather couches from West Elm.
We are officially moving in this week and I cannot wait to see everything take shape!
